Ghella selected for $2.5B M6 Motorway

Ghella, in a joint venture with CIMIC Group’s CPB Contractors and UGL, has been selected by the New South Wales Government to deliver stage 1 of Sydney’s M6 motorway.

The value of the design and construct contract is $ 2.5b.

The M6 Stage 1 will connect Sydney’s south to the city’s wider motorway network. It will improve journey times, reduce congestion, and remove trucks from local streets.

Ghella Managing Director of Australia Marco Fontana said:  "We are delighted to have been chosen to work closely with Transport for New South Wales to deliver the M6 Stage 1 project.  This significant tunnelling and infrastructure project will provide safer and shorter travel times for drivers commuting between the CBD and Sydney South, especially during peak traffic times. We once again look forward to working alongside our JV partners CPB Contractors and UGL."

The joint venture will deliver an underground motorway connection between President Ave, Kogarah and the M8, mainline tunnels, exit/entry ramps, shared cycle and pedestrian pathways and tunnel stubs for a future Stage 2 of the M6 (subject to obtaining relevant planning approvals).

Work will commence in 2022 and is scheduled to be completed in 2025.
