We strive to act as stewards of responsibility toward others, with the aim of leaving a better future for the next generations. With this in mind, we are reaffirming our commitment alongside Fondazione Operation Smile Italia ETS by supporting an initiative focused on training and strengthening healthcare expertise.
After years of collaboration to provide surgical and multidisciplinary care in Brazil and to contribute to the sustainability of local healthcare systems, this year our support is dedicated to an initiative aimed at training a team of medical professionals from Brazil at the Operation Smile Care and Training Center in Milan, located within ASST Santi Paolo e Carlo.
The Milan Center — the only one in Europe among Operation Smile’s 32 Care Centers worldwide — specializes in the treatment of congenital cranio-maxillofacial conditions, particularly cleft lip and palate. Coordinated by a multidisciplinary team of specialists in surgery, orthodontics and speech therapy, it serves not only as a center of excellence for patient care, but also as a training hub for Operation Smile volunteer healthcare professionals from low- and middle-income countries.
From May 10 to May 23, 2026, Milan will host a team of Operation Smile volunteer medical professionals from Brazil, consisting of a plastic surgeon, a speech therapist and an orthodontist. During their stay, the professionals will take part in multidisciplinary outpatient clinics, therapeutic sessions, and speech therapy and orthodontic treatments; the surgeon will also observe the team in the operating room during surgical procedures.
This structured, high-level training program includes participation in multidisciplinary clinics, lectures delivered by specialists, and the sharing of the Milan Center’s unique multidisciplinary protocol, with the aim of transferring expertise and enabling the model to be replicated in local contexts.
Through this initiative, we continue to support a path that places people, expertise and international collaboration at its core — transforming solidarity into tangible and sustainable development.
