Naples-Bari: the first section of the railway line is now operational

The event marking the activation of the new Cancello–Frasso Telesino–Dugenta section of the Naples–Bari High-Speed/High-Capacity (HS/HC) railway line was held yesterday at the Reggia di Caserta. The project represents a decisive step toward the completion of the Naples–Bari HS/HC line, confirming its role as one of the most significant infrastructure initiatives for bridging the territorial gap between Northern and Southern Italy.

The event was opened by Francesco Aguglia, President of the CFT Consortium, who highlighted how the activation of the Cancello–Frasso section constitutes a key milestone in Italy’s infrastructure landscape.

The event was organized by Impresa Pizzarotti, lead company of the CFT Consortium – which also includes Ghella and Itinera – responsible for delivering the project. The meeting brought together institutions, trade associations, and representatives of the industrial supply chain. Speakers explored the economic and social development prospects linked to the new infrastructure during a roundtable entitled: “Territorial Growth through Fast and Sustainable Mobility.”

High-Speed Rail as a driver of growth, says Undersecretary Tullio Ferrante

Also in attendance was Tullio Ferrante, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport with responsibility for the functional coordination of commissioner-led projects, who stated: “The new Naples–Bari HS/HC line is the cornerstone of the national strategy for investments in Southern Italy. The goal is to turn high-speed rail into a driver of growth, reducing disparities and travel times to boost local economies. This is a fundamental project, set to transform connectivity, improving accessibility to strategic areas of the South, while generating employment and sustainable development.” “The project,” he added, “is part of a broader €205 billion investment plan that, as the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, we are implementing across railway, road, port, and airport infrastructure. In Campania alone, projects worth €26 billion are planned, demonstrating how central this region is to the Government’s agenda.” “We are investing with commitment and determination in the revitalization of Southern Italy, and the Naples–Bari HS/HC line,” Ferrante concluded, “is the symbol of a new phase of infrastructure modernization, crucial to enhancing the competitiveness of our territories. We will continue working to unlock construction sites and build the future of the South and of the entire country.
